HI Design MEA - Keynote Speaker Confirmed!

Jean-Michel Gathy to headline inaugural event 4th January 2017

The first HI Design MEA has already found the support of the region’s project leaders as they claim their places in Muscat this March. Principal of Denniston, Jean-Michel Gathy has been confirmed as their Keynote speaker. Gathy’s name is consistently associated with some of the most successful hotel resort designs in the world.

Denniston have an incomparable project list including several of the most recognized Aman Resorts, the Cheval Blanc Randheli and One & Only’s Reethi Rah in the Maldives. The Setai in Miami plus Chedi Hotels in Andermatt and in our host city, Muscat, Oman should also be listed here.  Gathy has proven to be a man for all seasons, geographies and operators having also worked on properties for Hyatt, Andaz, Raffles, Jumeirah and Fairmont.

Our Seminar Host, Guy Dittrich first encouraged Gathy to “come out of the woods” in 2014 when he interviewed him for Sleeper Magazine. An entertaining conversationalist with a deeply founded belief in the power of design and designing for the guest experience, Gathy was quick to clarify: “It doesn’t matter what the architect thinks, as long as the guest likes it…” Gathy also cited a timelessness in his design where things simply fit together: “This means no visual challenge. Things…are in the right place. Are comfortable."

We look forward to this conversation continuing and opening up to the floor as our delegates are invited to put questions of their own to our speaker. There will also be plenty of time to talk after the official business of the day…

2017 is set to be the most dynamic year to date for Gathy as Denniston marks its 31st anniversary.  New projects include the Aman in New York, two new Cheval Blanc’s, the Mandarin Oriental Bali, the development of One & Only Sanya and Montenegro and Four Seasons Hotels in Tokyo and Bangkok...
