George Scammell, Vice President, Global Design Wyndham Worldwide
George Scammell is Vice President of Global Design for Wyndham Worldwide, responsible for creating imaginative state-of-the-art designs for the Wyndham Worldwide global portfolio of brands, and administering all design brand standards for hotel and vacation ownership properties.
A licensed interior designer with over 27 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Scammell’s career focus has been hotels, resorts, and restaurants, serving in a variety of leadership positions at many renowned hospitality companies, architect and design firms both in the United States and internationally. He is also a Professional Member of both the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). George started his career in hospitality at age 17, working as a host at Walt Disney World.
From 2008-2009, Scammell worked with CORE architect design, as one of four principles. He managed all hotel design projects and played a significant role in new business development. Prior to this, he worked three years in the luxury hospitality design market for RD Jones & Associates and ForrestPerkins.
From 1997 to 2005, Scammell served as Resorts’ Design Manager for the Walt Disney World Company. At Disney, he oversaw many different phases of development for the company’s 19 destination resorts and six vacation clubs, 35,000 guest rooms in total. He also worked in China, where he managed and implemented the initial design process for the guest rooms at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
Prior to working for Disney, Scammell spent 14 years in various interior design roles for firms including Spectum: Interior Design/Space Planning, Schweizer Associates, Schenkel & Shultz, Spillis Candela & Partners, FICO Construction Company and Shaw Industries/Doster Floor Covering.
Scammell earned his bachelor’s degree in interior design from Florida State University.
