Jane Lawrence, Director, Johnson Naylor, UK and Ex Director, Conran + Partners
Until recently, Jane was a director at Conran + Partners, responsible for interiors projects in the residential, museum and hospitality sectors, both internationally and in the UK.
Projects carried out during her 16 years with Conran include designs for the Apeejay and Surrendra Hotel Group in India and for the £70m Great Eastern Hotel (now a Hyatt-owned Andaz).
She was also responsible for a number of hospitality projects in Vienna, collaborating with an inspired operator. This relationship began with the upgrade of the suites at the Das Triest Hotel and continued with the design of Café Drechsler, an iconic Viennese café featured in the ‘Vienna Café 1900’ exhibition, at the RCA, 2008. Latterly she was instrumental in the design of a new 40-bed boutique hotel in Vienna’s 1st District, which opens summer 2013.
Jane also has experience of the high end residential sector including the design of serviced apartments for the Sa Marina development, Ibiza; Kenny Heights,Kuala Lumpur and a prestigious residential scheme on the banks of the river Thames.
She recently became a director at Johnson Naylor, a London based design practice working primarily in the residential sector for such clients as Ballymore Properties and Londonewcastle. Capitalising on the significant cross over between residential and hospitality design (a hotel – a home) Jane aims to introduce the practice to the hospitality sector as well as oversee residential projects.
She has also established a consultancy to promote excellence in design through design debates, teaching and lecturing and is a regular contributor to FX, Sleeper and the RIBA and conferences including Sleep and the IHC. Jane also judges design awards and is involved with a design college, assisting with the development of their course strategy.
